Results for Spain
First of all, I would like to congratulate all the winners !! You are simply the best !!
But, now when the Olympics London 2012 have finished, it is time to rewind and look back at past Olympic Games and our performance...
How did Spain fair in past Olympics? Athens was 19, Peking was 18 .... London has finished with 17 medals (3 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze ones). We hope there is not a downward tendency !!
Ranking? Spain finished 21st , with North Korea, Chec Rep, Jamaica, Iran, New Zealand and Cuba all respectively above.
Number of Gold medals? The all-time historical benchmark is Barcelona 1992 where Spain managed 13 Gold Medals. In Pekin 2008 Spain managed 5 and in London Spain has managed 3 Gold Medals.
We hope there is not a downward tendency !!

London welcomes the Olympic Flame
During its time in the capital, the Olympic Flame will be carried by
982 Torchbearers and travel around 200 miles of the capital’s streets,
taking in landmarks, community spaces and places to showcase London to
the world.
Dame
Kelly Holmes, who won 800m and 1500m gold at the Athens 2004 Olympic
Games was the first Torchbearer in the capital in recognition of her
success as athlete. She carried the Olympic Flame from Tower Wharf up on to the ramparts of the Tower of London.

Pau Gasol will carry Spain's flag in
the opening ceremony at the London Olympics next week, the Spanish
Olympic Committee said Friday.
The Lakers basketball player replaced tennis
star Rafael Nadal, who announced Thursday he was pulling out of the
London Games because of physical problems.
Los Angeles Lakers centre Gasol is one of the country’s most recognised sportsmen and helped Spain win silver in Beijing four years ago, when they lost in the final to the United States.

Big Ben, time for a new name
One of Britain’s best-known landmarks, the tower housing Big Ben will be
renamed ‘The Elizabeth Tower’ in honour of the Queen’s six decades on the throne.
The tower, formally known as The Clock Tower, will bear the Queen’s name in
perpetuity.
The 316-foot tower has become one of the most well-known symbols of London and will still be known colloquially as Big Ben
